Sending Ashes By Mail or Courier

This is a very important update and warning for anyone considering sending ashes via mail or courier.  In the past we have offered a free filling service for memorial jewellery and this has always been without incident.  The ashes have arrived safely and been returned safely home in the jewellery piece by either Registered Mail (Australia Post) or by a high level courier service.  We were of the opinion that this was something that was completely safe and were happy to offer it to our customers.

We have had to make the decision though to discontinue this practice for a VERY important reason.  Though ashes and filled jewellery have never gone astray, over the past couple of months we have had two unfilled jewellery orders go missing - one by Registered Mail and one by courier.  They are nowhere to be found.  These pieces were empty and were able to be quickly replaced but we have been left thinking "what if that contained someone's ashes?"

So, from now on we have decided not to offer the filling service.  We have always found that if anyone isn't comfortable filling their jewellery themselves, then a local funeral director will conduct that service for you.  Simply contact them directly once you have your jewellery.

We encourage everyone to NEVER send cremation ashes by mail or courier (even via the 'secure' services they offer).  It is not worth the risk.  Empty cremation/memorial jewellery can be replaced if it goes astray.  Ashes cannot.
